Overview

NextGenEditor Makes available to you a whole media manager for all your images, files and media. It is plugged on the Joomla images, so you use the same images in NextGenEditor and in Joomla manager.

You can drop your images from your desktop or another website. You can move, rename, delete images. You can resize (physically), crop and rotate the images.

 

Accessing the media manager in the widgets

When you are creating or editing a widget, in the configuration screen, if you need an image for example for a slideshow image, you can select and an image with the purple search button. The images manager opens.

 

 

Accessing the media manager in Joomla articles

 

In Joomla front-end, that is in your Joomla page, you can edit the article just clicking inside it. A toolbar is visible. When you use the image button, a image window is visible. Use the "Explore server" button to display the image manager.

 

 

Images list

The main part of the media manager window is the images list. The list shows all the images and other files of the current flolder. The images are visible as thumbnails, or in list mode.

View mode button : use the view mode to view images and files as thumbnails or detailed list.

Display order button : use this button to change the display order

Search input : you can search a file by its name in the current folder, or in all folders, by its name or its extension type.

Search place : here / volume / all : here to search in the current folder, volume or all to search in all folders.

Search type : filename / mimetype : to find an image or a file by its name, or to find all files with an extension (xls for example)

 

Folders

The left side of the media manager window is the list of folders. These are the Joomla folders of the images directory in Joomla. You can create new folders, rename, move, delete or even zip folders.

When you do a right click on a folder, a popover menu purposes some actions. You can also drag directly files or folders to move them.

 

Open : open this folder and show on the right panel the images and files of this folder.

Download : creates a zip archive containing all images and files of the folder and downloads it in your desktop.

Upload files : opens a window to drop files from your desktop, or browse files with your desktop explorer. You can also drop images directly in the right panel.

New folder : create a new folder inside the current folder.

Copy : you can copy and paste in another folder a whole folder and its files. That can be useful to keep original images in a folder and resize or crop images for publication in another folder.

Cut : you can cut a folder and all its content into another folder to move it. You can also do this just by drag and drop. Be aware to not move your folders if they contain images used in articles. The reference of the image in the article must be changed if you move the image or its folder. 

Delete : removes a folder and all its images. Be aware that if the folder contains images used in articles, they will be lost and the images will be missing.

Rename : the current folder. Be aware to not rename a folder if it contains images used in articles. The reference of the image in the article must be changed if you move the image or its folder.

Create archive : creates a zip archive containing all images and files of the current folder and puts it in the current folder as a new zip file.

Get info : display information about the current folder, for example physical size of all the files inside it.

 

Drag and drop operations : you can drag a folder and drop it in another folder. It is a fast way to move images or folders. Be aware to not move your folders if they contain images used in articles. The reference of the image in the article must be changed if you move the image or its folder. 

 

Using the main toolbar

On the top of the media manager window, a toolbar helps you to do the main manipulations on your images.

On each image you can also use the right clic popover.

 

Upload images : you can upload images from your desktop using tihs button, then either drop image in the upload window, or browse in your desktop explorer. You can drop directory images directly in the main right panel of images.

Create Folder : you can create new folders with the "Create folder" button. The new folder will be created in the current folder.

Resize/Crop/Rotate : you can resize, crop or rotate physically the icurrent selected mage. Resize an image - Crop an image

Rename : use this button to rename an image or a file. Be aware that if you rename an image used in an article, you must change the image reference also in the article..

Download : you can download on your desktop the current selected image. You can also download a whole folder and its content as a zip file, by right-clicking on it.

Duplicate : makes a physical copy of the current image or current file. You can also duplicate a whole folder and its content, by right-clicking on it.

Delete : the current selected image or file. Be aware that if you delete an image used in an article, the image will be missing in the article.

Get info : displays information about the current selected image or file : file size, physical dimensions, path, date of last modification.

Preview : display a preview of the image in a popup window.

 

Right-click on images : you can also do a right-click on each image to get all these actions in a dropdown menu.
